Chris Sharma, from Santa Cruz, California, is widely hailed as one of the best rock climbers of all time. He first started climbing at age 12, and two years later won his first major competition, a national bouldering event. At age 15, he climbed what was then the hardest route in North America: Necessary Evil (5.14c) in Arizona’s Virgin River Gorge. Since, he has continued to drive the boundaries of difficult sport climbing, including the first ascent of the world’s first 5.15a withBiographie (aka Realization) in Céüse, France. He also established the world’s first 5.15b: Jumbo Loveat Clark Mountain, California. Several of his hardest routes remain unrepeated.
